Culture is sustainable energy.
Hurricanes rage all over the world.
Droughts.
And rainstorms.
Dried-up wells, floods, forest fires, glaciers melting away.
Tsunamis.
Environmental disasters are becoming everyday events. They are all symptoms of a planet in distress.
The Art for the Globe foundation was set up in 2023 by Swedish physician Johan Wallin, to spread awareness of the plight of the world.
For change to happen, deeper engagement has to be provoked.
Can culture take the lead?
Culture has the power to spark awareness that will generate good intentions and kickstart action.
Art for the Globe believes that culture is an untapped source of energy for greater sustainability. Through music, painting, literature, dance, photography, opera and film, feelings and thoughts are provoked in the audience that are many times more powerful than political statements and scientific reports. Probably because the best cultural works speak to us from the heart.
The Art for the Globe foundation will use culture to mobilise a force for change towards a sustainable world. We want to spread awareness. Spur more people into action.
A significant part of our work is the Art for the Globe award. One of Sweden's biggest culture awards, worth at least SEK 500.000 a year.
The Art for the Globe award will be awarded to humanists, artists of all types and organisations who have succeeded in provoking key national debates, spread awareness and build a force for change driving progress towards a sustainable world.
